UK economy was on the up in early 2010

The UK economy was expanding in early 2010, latest official estimates show. Gross domestic product (GDP) rose by 0.3% in the first quarter of 2010 on the previous quarter — unchanged on the earlier estimate published in May.

Manufacturing output rose by 1.4% in the first quarter of 2010 on the previous quarter and was 1.8% higher than the same quarter a year earlier.

The output of the production industries (manufacturing, energy and utilities) increased by 1.0% in the first quarter of 2010 on the previous quarter, but was unchanged on the same quarter of 2009.
