Nautilus pay claim

Nautilus UK, the British merchant navy officers union and Nautilus NL, its Dutch counterpart, will this month submit their first joint pay claim — the two unions plan to merge next year. Their claim to the cruise ship company Holland-America combines common core demands with specific national issues.

Paul Maloney, the merger coordinator for the new union, told a Unions 21 fringe meeting at TUC that “international mergers … that retain the sense of identity for union members” provide a model for organisation that differs from large national unions.
