Age bias rife in IT

Age discrimination is still rife in the IT industry, according recruiter Greythorn.

When asked if the industry discriminated on the grounds of age, nine out of ten IT professionals polled said it did. Three out of four think the industry discriminates against the over 50s.

Fewer than one in five IT (19%) workers say they don’t see a future for themselves in IT, but this rises to one in four (25%) IT professionals in their 50s.

Paul Winchester of Greythorn said that, while in some professions an employee is considered better at their job when they have built up a body of experience, “in IT, age is not necessarily perceived as an asset”.
