Inflation steadies on both counts

The rate of inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) was unchanged at 5.2% in May compared to the previous month, according to the Office for National Statistics.

Higher fuel and food prices were offset by cheaper housing elements, such as mortgage and rent payments.

Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI), inflation was also steady at 4.5%.
