Hungarian council abolished

The Hungarian government says it will abolish the country’s OÉT council comprising unions, employers and government. It is replacing it with a new council representing a range of interests, including chambers of commerce and churches.

Unions oppose the move, believing the new body to be little more than a talking shop. István Gaskó, head of LIGA, one of Hungary’s six union confederations, said the plans were inidicative of the fact that “the government does not want to continue to talk to employees”.
