School trips

Education secretary Michael Gove has, on the grounds of “common sense”, drastically reduced guidance on school trips: official advice for those organising school trips is being cut back from 150 pages to just 8 pages.

The teaching unions recognise that school trips enrich pupils’ learning, but are not happy about the reduction in guidance. Amanda Brown of the NUT said: “What we want is advice which is very clear and straightforward, but long enough to cover enough of the detail so that people do feel secure.”
