RCN rule change

Health care assistants, health care support workers and assistant practitioners are now eligible as full members of the Royal College of Nursing (RCN).

The RCN is a trade union as well as a professional body, but it is not affiliated to the TUC.

More than four-fifths of the membership voted in favour of the move at the RCN’s AGM held at the end of October.

It also means there will be two new seats on the RCN Council for health practitioners such as health care assistants, assistant practitioners and health care support workers.
