Prague fatale

Philip Kerr, Quercus Publishing Plc, 416 pages, hardback, £17.99

From the author of the acclaimed Berlin noir trilogy, this is the latest and eighth in the Bernie Gunther series of thrillers. The sixth, If the dead rise not, won the 2009 CWA Ellis Peters award for Best Historical Crime Novel.

Ranging all over Europe and beyond, they span a 20-year period covering the build-up to World War Two, the war itself and finally, its bitter aftermath. This latest is set in Prague in 1942 and delivers everything Gunther fans have come to expect.
