Inflation rises sharply

In October, inflation rose sharply on both main measures, according to the Office for National Statistics. Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) it rose by 0.6 percentage points to 3.2%. Factors contributing to the rise included dearer food.

Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) measure, it was up by 0.5 percentage points to stand at 2.7% in October.
