Usdaw votes to retain fund

Members of shopworkers’ union Usdaw have voted by 93% to 7% in favour of retaining their political fund in the union’s statutory 10-yearly ballot.

Usdaw said the vote in favour was the highest in the four ballots it has held since 1985, when the law requiring them came in.

The union’s general secretary, John Hannett, said the result was an “overwhelming vote of confidence in Usdaw keeping a political voice”.
