Polly Toynbee

Columnist for The Guardian newspaper Polly Toynbee has become president of the Community Practitioners and Health Visitors Association section of general union Unite.

The appointment comes at a time when the government’s pledge to create 4,200 extra health visitors during the course of this parliament will come under scrutiny.

Unite head of health Rachael Maskell welcomed the appointment, saying that Toynbee “has been unrelenting in highlighting the failings of governments”.
