Recognition deals

The Unite general union and RMT transport union have both won collective bargaining rights through the statutory recognition process in decisions announced in July.

The Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) awarded recognition to Unite at packaging firm Primopost without the need for a ballot. After a lengthy debate with the employer, the CAC accepted that the union had a majority membership within the bargaining unit and declared recognition.

RMT won a deal at Pullman Rail Train Maintenance Depot in Cardiff after nine in 10 voters were in favour of the union being granted recognition. Of the 170 workers eligible to vote, 144 did so, and 129 of them voted in favour.
