No council contracts for blacklisters

Cambridge City Council has passed a unanimous motion to stop awarding contracts for work to firms involved in blacklisting until they compensate workers.

Richard O’Leary, regional organiser for the GMB general union, said: “This is a victory for those who have been subject to the despicable practice of blacklisting.”

Cambridge has joined the growing number of local authorities which are barring those construction companies that blacklisted thousands of innocent workers from being awarded lucrative public contracts.

“We will continue the fight for all those who were on the list to be fully compensated and the practice of ‘blacklisting’ is stamped out,” O’Leary said.
