Unions rally round victimised safety rep

The college lecturers’ union UCU held a national demonstration in July as part of its campaign against job cuts and union victimisation at London Metropolitan University.

The demonstration in London, which was backed by other unions including the public and commercial services PCS union, was organised in protest at plans to cut almost 400 jobs at London Met.

The protest also called for the reinstatement of UCU safety rep David Hardman and UCU branch chair Mark Campbell. They are the only two members of staff to have been made compulsorily redundant.

Hardman spoke recently at the Hazards conference about his work to tackle work-related stress at London Met.
