Fuel fuels inflation

Inflation is on the move upwards, the latest official figures show.


Under the measure favoured by union negotiators –the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — inflation in July was up to 1.9% from 1.6% in June. Dearer petrol and alcohol pushed up the rate 


For the government’s preferred measure — the Consumer Prices Index — the annual rate of inflation was up to 0.6% from 0.5% the previous month.
