No change in rate of inflation

Inflation under the Retail Prices Index (RPI) — the measure favoured by union negotiators — was unchanged at 2.0% in October. 


Dearer furniture and alcohol were offset by cheaper clothing and footwear.


Under the Consumer Prices Index (CPI) — the government’s preferred measure — the annual rate of inflation dipped to 0.9% from 1.0%.
