CWU sends aid consignment to Syria

As Labour Research went to press, the charity run by the CWU communications workers' union was getting ready to send a huge consignment of aid to alleviate the plight of thousands of the estimated 1.5 million Syrian refugees living — in often terrible conditions — in Lebanon.

The union's charity, CWU Humanitarian Aid (CWUHA) had already sent a consignment of medical supplies to the besieged Syrian city of Aleppo in February. Following this, CWUHA has joined a multi-agency mission.

It pledged to fill two of a dozen 40-foot containers with food, medical supplies, warm clothing and toiletries for people, including many youngsters, who are surviving outdoors.
