Inflation rises

Inflation is at a two-year high. Under the Retail Prices Index (RPI), the measure favoured by union negotiators, the annual inflation rate was up 2.2% in November.

Dearer clothing — which saw its biggest rise since 2010 — and fuel were the main contributors to the increase.

Under the Consumer Prices Index, the government’s preferred measure, the annual rate of inflation was up to 1.2% from 0.9% in October.
