Alitalia deal

The future of the Alitalia Italian airline company remains uncertain as the company’s 12,500 employees vote on a preliminary deal to which the unions have agreed.

The proposed settlement reduces the planned number of redundancies from 1,338 to 980, but there is still a pay cut equivalent to 8% overall, with fewer rest days.

If the deal is agreed the company will receive additional finance, part of which will be guaranteed by the government.
