Bargaining reach recedes

Employees were less likely to have their pay determined by collective bargaining in 2016 than the year before, according to the latest official trade union statistics (see left). The figures include those who are not union members but benefit from a collectively-bargained deal.

The percentage slipped from 27.9% of employees to 26.3%. Collective bargaining coverage has fallen to 59% in the public sector and less than 15% in the private sector.
