Call for inquiry into airport safety

Last month, the Unite general union launched a campaign for an independent inquiry to improve airport safety at Heathrow following the death of Unite member John Coles in February 2018.

The union says reports into his death point to failings with safety systems and emergency medical response procedures, which could have been a factor in his death.

Union reps say airside safety is not fit for purpose, and report that “near misses are occurring on a frequent basis”.
