Equal pay rules adopted by Spanish government

Regulations giving effect to new rules on equal pay have been adopted by the Spanish government following an agreement signed in July with the unions — but not the employers.

This requires all companies to maintain a register with information on pay, broken down by sex, to which employees will have access.

Companies with 50 or more employees must also carry out a pay audit every three years, which must both establish the precise position on pay and draw up a plan of action to tackle any differences revealed by the auditing exercise. Firms with more than 150 employees have until 7 March 2021 to act on these requirements. Smaller companies have an additional 12 months.
