Date for Spanish protest

The two main Spanish union confederations, CCOO and UGT, have agreed to organise a joint protest against the government on 11 February. They are calling for a timetable for the repeal of controversial labour legislation introduced in 2012, as well as an increase in the national minimum wage.

The unions have long called for the complete repeal of the labour laws. The government promised to modify significant parts of it when it was formed at the very end of 2019 (see Labour Research, January 2021, page 8). However, almost no progress has been made since the outbreak of the pandemic in March 2020. And in December 2020 the government froze the minimum wage with the aim of linking the increase to an agreement on the legislation.
