Climbdown on rights

The government appears to have backed down on its plans to review workers’ rights. Business secretary Kwasi Kwarteng has said that the review of working time rights he had earlier confirmed is no longer going ahead.

Unions had widely criticised the move, which targeted rights derived from the EU working time directive including, mandatory rest breaks and the inclusion of overtime payments in holiday pay.
