UK inflation edges up

Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation edged up very slightly to 1.5%, half a percent ahead of the Consumer Prices Index (CPIH) including a housing element, which rose from February’s 0.7%.

Petrol and clothing were upward pressures, but food prices (particularly “staples”) were lower than at the start of the pandemic.

The government’s decision to align RPI with CPIH from 2030 is now to be the subject of a judicial review.
