Political fund contributors up

More union members paid into union political funds in their latest accounting year (usually 2019) than did so in the previous year, according to the annual report of the certification officer (CO) for 2020-21.

There is a considerable time lag in the union information contained in the CO report, and it does not cover a clear 12-month period as it covers unions with their own varying financial accounting periods.

But it shows that the number of contributors to union political funds rose by 1.9% to 44.2 million in the year which, for most unions, was up to end-December 2019. The number of members in unions with a fund but who declined to contribute fell by 8.5%.
