War zone safety for journalists

The NUJ journalists’ union has called on UNESCO, the UN body aimed at promoting world peace, to ensure the protection and safety of journalists reporting on events within Ukraine.

It has published war zone safety information advising journalists to ensure their employer or engager carries out appropriate risk assessments to identify potential and likely risks, and ways to mitigate them.

It makes clear employers are responsible for providing them with safety equipment and advises freelancers to seek information from engagers on the equipment they will be provided with.
