Another inflation rise

Over the year to May, the Retail Prices Index (RPI) increased by 11.8% (up slightly from 11.7%). The government-preferred CPI rose by 9.4% (up from 9.1%, a 40-year high). CPI with a housing element — CPIH — rose by 8.2% (up from 7.9%).

TUC General Secretary Frances O’Grady warned of families under “immense pressure” and called for “profit restraint and pay rises that keep up with prices”.
