Stress blamed for teacher suicides

The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) reported that 1,000 calls are coming into its stress helpline every week as a result of excessive workload, pupil behaviour and Ofsted reports. The figures were released following the inquest into the death of primary school teacher Pamela Relf, who killed herself after she was criticised in an Ofsted report. She is the second primary teacher to have committed suicide after an Ofsted inspection.
