Inflation falls below target

The headline rate of UK inflation, which includes mortgage interest payments, fell in September from 2.1% to 1.7%.

The underlying rate, which excludes mortgage interest payments, also fell to 2.3% from 2.6%. It is now once again just below the government's target level of 2.5%.
