RPI rises for first time in months

The headline rate of inflation rose to 1.3% in January from 0.7% the previous month.

The underlying inflation rate, excluding mortgage interest payments, also rose to 2.6% from 1.9% in December. It is now again above the 2.5% target set by the Treasury, raising fears of an increase in interest rates.
