Keeping well at work

Keeping well at work

A TUC guide

Philip Pearson, TUC, £8.99

Work can make you sick, but too often workers accept this as "just part of the job". In fact workplace ill health and injury is preventable and this handbook shows workers how.

Written for individual workers, the handbook will also be a useful resource for union reps. It gives practical advice on how to tackle common health risks at work with emphasis on the "new" risks workers face. There are chapters on call centres; teleworking; stress, violence and bullying; tackling aches and strains; and occupational road risk.

The booklet also includes a chapter on pre-menstrual syndrome (PMS)and how to manage it and cope at work, and one on men's health. Disability rights at work and how to make a personal injury claim are also covered.

Case studies are used to illustrate the problems discussed and the book has lots of useful checklists with suggestions on how to prevent ill health and improve well being at work.
