Redundancy pay

We have heard that as from September 2003 there will be a new European law that will give every worker the right to at least a month's pay for every year of service if made redundant. It this correct?

There is no European law that would give workers the right to redundancy pay. Indeed, the government is currently considering (see Back-up on age discrimination - opposite) reducing the amount of redundancy pay for older workers.
