Italian worker wins race case

Print union GPMU won an important race discrimination case when an employment tribunal ruled that an Italian worker had the right to protection under the Race Relations Act 1976. Salvatore Barresi worked for seven years in a paper making company where he was constantly subjected to abuse on the grounds of his nationality. The tribunal found that the company had no equal opportunities procedures and had taken no action to prevent the abuse.
