Equality in Scotland

A new project which aims to challenge inequality and discrimination in Scotland's labour market has been launched by Bill Speirs, general secretary of the Scottish Trades Union Congress (STUC), and Scottish minister for communities Margaret Curran.

The One workplace equal rights project will offer advice and support to union reps and officials on promoting and bargaining for inclusive work practices, and on protection for marginalised workers.

The STUC said the project "will promote and raise awareness of the new rights for employees in the areas of race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion and age, and how to access these rights".

It will also promote and develop the latest phase of the Scottish Executive's One Scotland many cultures campaign, which aims to tackle racism at a workplace level.
