Media union will support BNP refuseniks

The BECTU media union says it will give its "full support" to members who refuse to work on election broadcasts for the far-right British National Party (BNP).

In a letter to major British broadcasters, including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and S4C, the union demands that staff should not be compelled to work on party political broadcasts (PPBs) promoting the BNP in the run-up to the European and local elections on June 10.

The broadcasters are told that BECTU will give full support to members who are instructed to produce PPBs for the party, but decline "as a matter of conscience."
