Wembley win cheered

Delegates heard of an important union victory at the Wembley Stadium construction site achieved as Congress was in progress.

The dispute involving 240 sacked steel workers employed on the site - one of the largest building projects in the country - has been settled, with the workers reinstated. Talks about compensation were taking place as Labour Research went to press.

The dispute flared up after one of the contractors on the site sacked over 200 of the building workers. Fast Track Site Services had taken over from another contractor and reneged on a deal to keep the steel workers on their existing conditions.
