Theatre musicians fight on for sliding pay scale

The Musicians’ Union has agreed a 3.4% pay rise for its members in touring theatre, after employers rejected its plans for a new pay structure based on venue size.

The union wants musicians in large-scale touring musicals to be paid more than those in smaller productions at regional repertory theatres, but has accepted the one-year deal while it tries to convince the theatre managers that its proposal is viable.
