CWU negotiates safety agreement with Romec

The role of safety reps at facilities management company Romec is to be significantly strengthened by a new national safety agreement negotiated by the CWU communication workers’ union.

The company has committed itself to consulting safety reps on risk assessments and responding to their representations in good time. Additionally, it has formally recognised that safety reps deal with occupational health as well as safety.

The agreement is notable for anticipating potential legal changes that may come into force as a result of the Health and Safety Executive’s current consultation on worker involvement (see “Take part in consultation on safety reps, urges TUC” elsewhere in this issue).
