Co-op opens new learning centre

Workers at Co-operative Retail Logistics, the distribution arm of the Co-operative Group, have had their learning horizons broadened by the opening of an innovative learning centre at its site in Nottingham.

Shopworkers’ union USDAW is providing three fully trained union learning reps at the centre, which was funded by the Learning and Skills Council.

Opening the centre last month, USDAW general secretary John Hannett said: “The Co-operative Group is a progressive employer so we’re delighted to be in partnership with them to offer courses that will benefit our members and the business.”

He added that the centre’s “state of the art” IT equipment will give the site’s 300 staff “the opportunity to gain new skills and extra confidence which should help them progress in their careers.”
