PCS gives green light to environmental network

After a successful conference in London earlier this month, civil servants’ union PCS is launching a network of environment reps.

More than 100 delegates met on 6 December to discuss climate change and the need for unions to organise on environmental issues. PCS assistant general secretary Chris Baugh told them that unions can play a vital role in political and workplace solutions to environmental problems.

PCS is linking up with other organisations such as Friends of the Earth and the Campaign against Climate Change, Baugh added, and is campaigning for union environment reps to be given legal rights.

The new network will utilise the expertise of PCS members who cover environmental issues as part of their work, as well as the enthusiasm of many activists.
