Health & safety - HSE Monitor

Diversity website

The HSE has launched a diversity portal on its website, covering a number of issues raised by trade unions.

It says that workplace health, safety and welfare applies to everyone. It accepts that factors like race, gender, disability, age and work pattern may affect people’s health and safety in the workplace – though it does not quite go as far as developing gender-sensitive, or ethnicity-sensitive proposals. However, the website does contain some advice on vulnerable workers and on diversity risk assessments that safety reps may find useful for their work. See http://www.hse.gov.uk/diversity/index.htm
