Pilots’ fly-zone fatigue

Pilots’ unions across Europe are campaigning for working time limits to protect members from fatigue, following the publication of new research.

The Scientific and Medical Evaluation of Flight Time Limitations, published by the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), details when pilots can fly and when they should rest through different time zones. The research identifies a number of legal provisions that need to be improved to ensure adequate levels of flight safety.

Balpa pilots’ union argues that common flight time limitations across Europe are worse than those it has won in the UK.
