Cleaners win recognition

The RMT transport union has gained recognition for cleaners employed by Initial Transport Services at St Pancras and Ebbsfleet international stations. The Central Arbitration Committee ordered the recognition without requiring a ballot after finding that 60% of the workers were members of the union.

However, the GMB general union failed in its bid to get recognition for care workers at the Loxley Lodge Care Home in Kirkby-in-Ashfield run by Leyton Healthcare. Although the majority of those voting in a ballot supported recognition they constituted less than 40% of the workers in the bargaining unit.
