Delivering learning

Over 1,600 workers at the Royal Mail Heathrow Worldwide Distribution Centre now have a new dedicated learning centre thanks to learning rep Parminder Kaur of the CWU communications union.

Kaur persuaded the management to let her transform a defunct shop so that learning could take place at one centre instead of at a number of different locations. She used a Union Learning Fund grant to put in laptops and broadband and the centre now provides a place to find information about courses and learning opportunities. Workers can use it as a drop-in centre for specific courses or to do their own studies.

Kaur said: “Being a ULR is hard work but extremely rewarding.”
