Two unions win rights

The GMB general union has won the right to collectively bargain on behalf of care workers employed by Bethsaida Home Care Services, Whitehaven.

A ballot of the 97 eligible workers ordered by the Central Arbitration Committee (CAC) last month resulted in a turnout of 50.5%. All 49 of those voting were in favour of recognition.

GMB is one of a number of unions that has been conducting successful recruitment campaigns in the growing private home care sector in the last couple of years.

Meanwhile, the CAC has awarded recognition to Unite general union for HGV drivers employed by Quinn Glass based at its Elton, Cheshire site.
