Disabled travellers

One in four disabled rail passengers has suffered a hate crime or abuse, according to the TUC’s Action for Rail campaign. The findings come as train companies embark upon a major programme of cuts that Action for Rail fears could see the loss of 14,000 train and station staff over the next six years.

The poll also reveals that over two-fifths of wheelchair users and travellers with visual impairments (41%) have suffered abuse.

Four-fifths of the survey respondents said reducing staff numbers will make train travel more difficult for them, with one in three warning the cuts will deter them from making journeys.
