Mental health guide

A new guide, Mental Health at work, from the Business Disability Forum (BDF) is aimed at line managers, but will be of use to union reps.

The BDF aims to make it easier for businesses to employ disabled people and the guide challenges common preconceptions about mental health. For example it underlines the importance of not discriminating against someone who has no apparent cause for their depression versus someone who may be going through a bereavement.

It explains that managers can encourage people to be open about their mental health but should not always wait for a person to approach them.
