Construction site blitz

Poor standards and working practices on building sites have been targeted during September, as part of a nationwide drive by the HSE aimed at reducing death and injury in construction

During the month long initiative, the HSE is carrying out unannounced checks at sites where refurbishment projects or repair works are underway to ensure high-risk activities, such as working at height, and work which could result in exposure to harmful dusts, are being properly managed.

In 2012-13, there were 39 deaths recorded in construction.
