Face up to quality advice

Face-to-face advice is key to quality careers guidance for young people, says public service union UNISON.

The union, which represents careers service staff, met with shadow education minister Rushanara Ali and others to discuss the service after regulator Ofsted reported that careers guidance in most schools it visited was “not working well”.

In February, the government said it considered face-to-face guidance “outmoded”.

However, the unions disagree. UNISON national secretary Jon Richards said “access to good quality face-to face guidance by fully qualified careers practitioners” was key.
